The Dordogne Valley and its surroundings are located in one of the most beautiful regions of France. The area boasts wonderful scenery and plenty of interest for each and every visitor some activities on the Dordogne river, castles, cave paintings, historical “bastides” (houses) and, of course, the opportunity to indulge in world class wines and excellent regional gastronomy including the famous “foie gras” and “confit de canard”.
DAY 1 (approximately 30 miles)
Arrival in Bordeaux walking tour of the city. Don't miss the Chartrons quarter and its lovely architecture and the "Grand Theatre". Stroll along the banks of the River Garonne.
For the afternoon we would suggest a tour of the worldreknown vineyards, such as Saint-Emilion, Chateau Mouton-Rothschild or Chateau Margaux.(It is recommended to check the opening hours of the vineyards!)

Overnight in the Bordeaux area.

DAY 2 (approximately 95 miles)
Visit to Sarlet-La-Canéda, in Périgord and its medieval red houses. From November to March the goosemarket is held on the "Place des Oies".

There are many lovely villages in the area, especially worth a visit is Périgueux and its two dome churches. Wednesdays and Saturdays are market days. Indulge yourself in the regional specialties: confit de canard, foie gras, truffles and goat cheese.
A few miles north is the town of Brantôme - the "Venice of the Périgord" with its numerous canals. Walk along the river Dronne and in the lovely garden, next to the abbey.

Overnight in the Sarlet-La-Canéda area. ( 2 nights)

DAY 3 (approximately 60 miles)
There are over 200 prehistoric sites in the Dordogne. The Eyzies-de-Tayac and Lascaux caves were discovered in 1940 and both are world famous for their animal paintings. Other caves worth visiting are: Le Cap Blanc, Le Poisson, Les Combarelles and the Font-de-Gaume (paintings).

Overnight in the Sarlet-La-Canéda area.
DAY 4 (approximately 50 miles)
Visit to Rocamadour, a hillside pilgrimage place since the 12th century. For a great view, drive up to the Hospitalet.
Visit the "Gouffre de Padirac", a large chasm with azure blue water (350 feet large & 260 feet deep), created by a collapsed cave system. A lift takes you to the bottom of the chasm and you can take a boat ride to a lovely waterfall.
If time permits, you might like to visit the Pech-Merle cave.

Overnight in the Rocamadour area.
DAY 5 (approximately 60 miles)
Visit to the Roman city of Cahors, on the river Lot. Don't miss the fabulous view from the Valentre bridge! Afterwards explore the charming villages in the surrounding area and … don't forget to taste the famous Cahors wine!

Overnight in the Cahors area.
DAY 6 (approximately 85 miles)
Drive to Albi, birthplace of the famous artist Toulouse-Lautrec and visit the "pink city" ( color of the local clay) and its Sainte-Cécile cathedrale. The Museum Toulouse-Lautrec is located at the Palace de la Berbie.

Near Albi is the picturesque town of Cordes-sur-Ciel with houses dating to the 13th and 14th centuries. Another good stop is Castres, a good starting point for excursions to the Lacaune Hills or the Montagne Noir (Black Mountain).

Overnight in the Albi area.
DAY 7

We would suggest to spend the last two days in Toulouse, famous for its violet flowers.
Visit the impressive Saint-Sernin Basilica and "The Jacobins". Watch life from the terrace cafes on Capitols Square, by the Town Hall or stroll along the attractive streets around President Wilson Square.

Overnight in the Toulouse area.
